New Minnesota Standards for the Arts Approved

On Monday, November 16, 2009, the Office of the Administrative Law Judge officially approved the revisions to the Minnesota Standards in the Arts. This approval culminated over two years of collaborative work by both the Perpich Center for Arts Education and the Minnesota Department of Education.  In September of 2007, Alice Seagren, MN Commissioner of Education appointed a 22 member committee to begin work reviewing the existing standards for arts and provide suggestions for revision. That process was completed in June of 2008 and then moved on to the rule-making process that is administered by the Department of Education and the office of the Administrative Law Judge. That process was completed in November of 2009.The Standards will be effective beginning with the 2010-2011 school year for all Minnesota students, Kindergarten through 12th grade.
